THEY LEFT SO WE COULD BECOME

They left so we could become is a short film, also conceptualised as an installation. When projected through an aquarium, the film’s reflection fractures into a large, captivating display on the back wall of the room.

This project serves as a heartfelt homage to my family, who made the sacrifice of leaving their home country in order to provide for a better future.

The short film weaves together archival footage, featuring people waving at the camera, accompanied by the timeless soundtrack of O Sole Mio.
The combination of visuals and sound captures the essence of a collective journey and the profound impact of familial sacrifices. The film prompts viewers not to only ponder on the act of waving, but also to question  their act of waving, and to whom their gestures are meant for.
